File consists of newspaper articles related to the Kanehsatà:ke Resistance (Oka Crisis, or Mohawk Resistance), a 78-day standoff from July 11-26, 1990 between the Kanienʼkehá꞉ka (Mohawk) people and the Quebec police, RCMP, and Canadian Army. The dispute was triggered by the proposed expansion of a golf course and townhouse development on Kanienʼkehá꞉ka land, including burial grounds. Tensions increased significantly after the death of a police officer. The golf course expansion was eventually cancelled.
