Prehistory of Salishan Languages

Academic Work

The question of an Ureheimat for Salishan speaking peoples may never have been a major issue, but there has not been consensus about it either. Since the late nineteenth century various scholars have made specific claims about the peopling of the northwestern United States and western Canada; often these claims were reasonable given the evidence available, although they have not always stood up to later investigation.
