The Raven Steals the Light

The Raven Steals the Light

Library Item

This book is a collaboration between one of the finest living artists in North America and one of Canada's finest poets. The ten masterful, complex drawings by Bill Reid and the ten episodes from Haida mythology, told by Bill Reid and Robert Bringhurst, complement each other and bring Haida art and mythology alive as never before in an English-speaking world. The collection includes, says Reid, "a good selection of bestiality, adultery, violence, thievery and assault, for those who like that sort of thing." These stories demonstrate the richness and range of Haida mythology, from bawdy yet profound tales of the trickster Raven to poignant, imagistic narratives of love and its complications in a world where animals speak, dreams come real, and demigods, monsters and men live side by side.
