Painting, on canvas, representing the Kiingitanga (Māori King Movement). The use of blue, purple and black paint represents freedom, inspiration, loyalty and wisdom. The intricate design represents the significance of the Kiingitanga and of the Chiefs who led the Kiingitanga Movement.
Back: "Te Kingitanga - This panel represents the Kiingitanga (King Movement). The designs inside the puhoro represent the significance of the Kingitanga and the important chiefs who founded, fought justice and led the Kiingitanga Movement i.e. Kiingi Potatau, Kiingi Taawhiao, Te Puea Herangi. Reason for the colour blue/purple/black is that it these specific colours represent freedom, inspiration, loyalty and wisdom. All are key factors that play a huge part in the formation of the Kingitanga, From Paupatu to Land and River Settlements. It also is tied into the Awa and Taniwha who also play an significant key within the Kiingitanga and the Tainui Iwi. Simple explanation of the panel: "It is Gentle yet rough, smooth yet hard, But as the Awa of Waikato moves, so does the Kiingitanga". Signature: ? ' 13 1/1"
