Individual
Mary Agnes Capilano was born at Tsítsusm (Potlatch Creek, Howe Sound) c1847. She was the grand-daughter of Pítsmeḵ and wife of Chief Joe Capilano. It is remembered by her family that everyone in the Community called her "Tá7a" (grandmother), no matter what their relationship was to her. Everyone loved her because she was a very kind and generous person. Líx̱welut was well known in non-native circles and received many invitations to celebrations, openings, and historic events. She is famous for giving the biggest potlatch in our history. Over 2000 chiefs and guests attended from all arts of the West Coast.
Líx̱welut had numerous fruit trees, berries, and a chicken coup to provide fresh food for her family. She would travel far in the mountains to pick wild berries and until her very late years she would travel by canoe to go fishing or visit her family. Today she is remembered by her descendants as a loving person who worked hard and lived a good life.
