Gordon Miller

Individual

Gordon Miller was born in Winnipeg in 1932. From 1950 to 1955 he attended the Vancouver School of Art. During that time he was awarded three scholarships, including the first T. Ingledew Scholarship at graduation. He spent his summers as a seaman on B.C. Coast Steamships, sailing to Alaska, Victoria, Nanaimo, Port Angeles and Seattle. In 1956 and 1957 he travelled in Italy, France, England and Ireland.

Positions he has held include:

  • Graphic designer for CBC and BCTV television for eight years
  • Three years as a commercial and exhibit designer with Hopping, Kovach and Grinnel
  • Seven years as Chief Designer with the Vancouver Museum and the Vancouver Maritime Museum.

Since 1977 Gordon Miller has freelanced in the areas of illustration, graphic and residential design. He has completed major contracts for the UBC Museum of Anthropology, Royal British Columbia Museum, and National Film Board, and has produced illustrations for UBC Press, Canadian GeographicReaders DigestHistorical Atlas of Canada, Parks Canada, and the Canadian Museum of Civilization.
